It is a steel structure vertical-lift bridge with the largest opening span and highest lifting height in China for now. With the total length of 550.1m, the main span in (2×48+64+2×48)m supporting by through-typed welded and high strength bolt-connected steel truss. On two sides of movable spans are 45m tall elevated steel tower for navigation. When the bridge is elevated, the net width is 60m and net height is 31m, allowing 5000t seacraft to go through. The first span in north bank was erected by 48m steel truss girders by centering, while the rest adopted overall cantilever erection. It was open to traffic on November 13, 1985. And it was rewarded First Prize of the Science and Technology Progress of the Ministry of Railways in 1987 and Second Prize of National Awards for Progress in Science and Technology in 1988.
