It is the first cross-sea bridge in China with a total length of 32.5km. Bridge above the sea is about 27km with dual six-lane highway. The navigation bridge is double-pylon single plane. It is a 40m high, steel concrete composite box girder bridge, which meets the requirements of 10000-ton class freight. The main pylon is with reinforced concrete structure in inverted bifurcation, which is 159m high, creating a domestic record for large concrete placement over the sea. Precast pier and coping, prestress box girder in 60m and 70m are integrally transported to install in the construction site, which represents a new concept in design. This bridge adopted precast bridge cap, pier, 60m and 70m pre-stressed concrete box in the factory, which were transported to the site overall and installed on the site. It is able to resist hurricanes and magnitude-7 earthquake, which benchmark service life is 100 years. In 2007, it was awarded the First Prize of National Awards for Progress in Science and Technology.
